Cary’s Carpenter Park is Now Open!

Project Background

In 2007, the Town purchased an approximately 16-acre parcel designated as a future neighborhood park. The parcel is located on the south side of Morrisville Carpenter Road and the east side of Louis Stephens Drive (see map). In 2012, voters approved $2 million in Cary Community Improvement Bonds towards park construction.

Project Scope

The current project will include the following features:
Central Pond with Earthen Dam
Restroom Structure
Children’s Play Area
Play Lawn Area
Multi-Sport Court – Basketball & two Pickleball Courts
Community Garden (with volunteer assistance)
Terraced Lawn Area
Preserved Forest
Pedestrian Trail – Internal Network and Neighborhood Connections
Parking for 30 Cars
Flight 3379 & 3378 Memorial (to be funded privately)
Small Picnic Shelter at Playground
Project Cost and Schedule

Fred Smith Company has been awarded the contract for park construction. The total project budget for the Project Master Plan, Design, and Construction is $2,983,000.

Master Plan approved – January 10, 2013
Construction Documents Completed – Fall 2014
General Park Construction – Started in Spring 2015, completed August 2016
Park open to the public — August 31, 2016
Community Garden installation – Fall 2016
Full construction started in Spring 2015
Completion has been delayed due to extended wet weather in fall and winter 2015
The community garden will be completed by volunteers and under a separate contract after general park construction is complete.
